What Everla does
Four things, designed to be used at your own pace. You can use one part and ignore the rest.
A guided conversation
Describe what's happening in your own words. Everla asks simple questions, helps you put a name to it — coercive control, harassment, financial abuse — and explains the law that applies, in ordinary language.
A safety plan
A practical checklist built around your situation: what to consider right now, in the next 24 hours, and longer term. You can edit every part of it, and it saves privately.
An encrypted evidence locker
Keep notes, photos, screenshots and documents locked behind your password. Useful if you ever report to the police or apply for a protective order — and unreadable to anyone else.
Plain-English legal guides
What coercive control means in law. What a non-molestation order does. What happens when you report something. Plus links to specialist services who can help.
Nothing you write ever leaves your device
Most apps send what you type to a company's computers. Everla doesn't — because for the people who need it, a record stored somewhere else is a risk. This is the most important thing to understand about how Everla works.
No account, ever
There is nothing to sign up for. No email address, no phone number, no name.
No server, no cloud
Everything stays on your own phone or computer. There is no copy anywhere else.
Locked with your password
Your notes and files are encrypted. Without your password they are unreadable — even to us.
Nothing to hand over
We hold no data about you, so there is nothing that could be leaked, hacked or requested from us.
Please read this bit. Everla protects what you store in it. It cannot protect you if someone else has installed monitoring software on your phone, watches your screen, or knows your password. If you think your device is being monitored, try to use Everla on a different device — a friend's phone, or a computer at a library.
Built to be used safely
Every part of Everla was designed around one question: what happens if someone else picks up this phone?
- Quick Exit. One tap — or pressing Escape three times — closes Everla instantly and sends your browser to a weather site. The back button won't bring it back.
- Installs as "Notes". If you add Everla to your home screen, it appears under a plain name with a plain icon.
- Locks itself. After a few minutes of inactivity, or when you switch away, Everla locks again automatically.
- No notifications. Everla never sends alerts, so nothing can appear on a lock screen for someone else to see.
- Works offline. Once opened, Everla works without internet — useful if data is limited or monitored.
- Free, with no adverts. Nothing to pay, and nobody paying for your attention.
Getting started
It takes about a minute. You don't have to do all of it, and you can stop at any point.
Open Everla
It runs in your web browser. There's nothing to download from an app store and no account to create.
Choose a password
This locks everything you save. Choose something you'll remember — even a short sentence. Everla can't recover it for you, and that's the same reason nobody else can get in.
Take it at your own pace
Read the guides, talk it through, or just look around. Nothing is saved unless you save it, and you can clear everything at any time.
Why Everla exists

Founder
Everla began with a personal experience. Its founder, Vidhata Ghattaora, went through a situation where she did not understand the law, her rights, or what options were open to her — and found that not knowing left her feeling powerless.
"I want legal knowledge to empower people, not intimidate them — and to help close the gap between having rights and being able to understand and act on them."
Talking to others, she realised the experience was common: people unsure whether what was happening to them was even against the law, afraid to report it, or overwhelmed by not knowing where to turn. Everla was built to close that gap — to sit between recognising that something is wrong and knowing what you can do next.
Everla is not a law firm and does not replace specialist services, solicitors or the police. It is designed to help people understand their options and reach the right support with more confidence.
For organisations and professionals
If you support people experiencing abuse, we would value your scrutiny.
Everla is built and in testing, and we are actively seeking input from domestic abuse specialists, frontline workers and legal professionals. We are particularly interested in partnerships covering:
- Review of the legal content and safeguarding approach by people who do this work daily
- Structured testing with people with lived experience, run through a specialist organisation
- Joint funding applications, where partner time is properly costed and paid — not asked as a favour
- Signposting, so that Everla reaches people who would not otherwise find it
Everla is free, carries no advertising, and collects no data from the people who use it. Our long-term intention is for it to be owned and run within the domestic abuse sector.

Common questions
Is it really free?
Yes. There is nothing to pay, no trial, no premium version and no adverts. Everla is funded by grants, not by its users.
Can anyone see what I write in it?
No. Everything you enter is encrypted and stays on your own device. There is no server and no account, so there is no copy anywhere else — and nothing we could read, share or be made to hand over.
What if I forget my password?
Your information cannot be recovered. That is a deliberate trade-off: the reason nobody else can unlock it is that there is no back door, including for us. Choose something memorable, and consider writing a reminder somewhere safe — not on the same device.
Will using this show up in my browsing history?
Visiting this website will appear in your browser history like any other site. To reduce traces, open it in a private or incognito window, and clear your history afterwards. Once you install Everla to your home screen it appears under the neutral name "Notes". The Quick Exit button also replaces the page so the back button won't return to it.
Is Everla legal advice?
No. Everla gives general information about the law in England and Wales to help you understand your situation and your options. It is not legal advice for your specific circumstances. For that, speak to a solicitor or a specialist support service — Everla will point you towards them.
Does it work on my phone?
Everla runs in a web browser, so it works on most phones, tablets and computers without installing anything from an app store. You can also add it to your home screen so it opens like an ordinary app and works without internet.
